What Even Am I Supposed to Say
I want to write more. So, this is me writing more.
Sometimes I feel like I have all the words. Today is not one of those days.
One of my favorite mentors and writers (Chelsea Dickinson) inspired me to consider doing daily posts for one month, as she just finished January.
Well, it’s February 2nd and this is my first post of the month. Do you see the problem here? 😅
I’m in this *slight* limbo of “don’t force it” and “girl, if you don’t force it, you will not do it.”
Talk about a paralyzing slump that has kept me scrolling Pinterest for far too many hours today. (I am sick, though, so isn’t it 21st-century medicine, too?)
Okay, anyway, it’s clearly not reasonable for me to promise daily posts. One day in and I dropped the ball. So, I’m making a lighter commitment: publish more.
I mean, if you want to hear from me daily, I LOVE YOU and you should find me on Instagram (here)!
But publishing more feels way simpler on my nervous system and ADHD brain than feeling forced to write for the world and publish every single day.
I can hear some people saying, “But the whole point is to get out of your comfort zone and write and publish every day!!!”
LISTEN, I do write every day. Obviously, not everything makes the cut for Substack. Really, not everything makes it past one sentence.
And let this be your reminder: We see a small fraction of our interweb-friend’s lives, right? Don’t forget there’s a whole world you don’t see.
Plus, if I promise to publish every day, I either:
Won’t
Will write for Substack, feel accomplished, and procrastinate on quite literally everything else
Will procrastinate all day dreading this post where I have no idea what to say and post one sentence at 11:11pm.
Eh, those all sound way more annoying and frustrating than invigorating and refreshing as a writer.
I know I’m not the only one, I know it’s the creator’s curse…feeling like you bleed words, stories, and lessons people need, and yet having nothing to say on a random Friday at 3:42pm.
Maybe I’m just sick. Maybe my default when unwell is to consume.
Maybe this isn’t actually a problem. Maybe this is the medicine itself.
To sit, unforced, and rest. To snuggle on the couch, in a fluffy pink robe, with my sweet familiars sleeping soundly around me. Nowhere to be. No one to answer to. Nothing to be done.
Why force myself to commit to something that would pull me out of this? (I guess I kinda pulled out of it by writing this. Okay, I get it now.)
The answer isn’t to write and publish an article on Substack every single day.
It’s to live.
And then write about it when you get the chance.
Today, me living is me lounging. I’m here for it. That’s why I’m writing you about it, I guess.
So, instead of setting unreasonable bets against myself, this is my commitment to publish more in the month of February than I usually do, starting with this article.
And since “write and publish more” sounds like a lackadaisical goal, here are some parameters and boundaries to help track this over the next 29 (28, ugh) days.
(Feel free to steal this planning strategy!)
The Goal: Write and publish more.
The Promises:
I will write daily.
If I do not know what to post, I will find a prompt, write without overthinking, and publish raw.
I will publish 2 Substack articles each week (excluding The Launch Spellbook).
I will share each article via Notes.
I will publish an additional article on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) and February 22 (my birthday).
The Tracking:
29 daily writings by 2/29/2024
Minimum of 11 new Substack posts for February 2024
I mean, hey, 11/29 isn’t, like, the worstttt, right? Whatever. Maybe one of these days I’ll fully commit to the full month. But, all progress is progress.
This will be a stretch for me - and that’s enough. <3
