Water Fast: Day 4
This is my real-time documentation of our 2024 four-day water fast.
Day 4.
TW: Eating Disorder
11am
Wow - I meant to check in around 7am when I first rolled out of bed…but instead, I went straight into my bible study, daily reading, and workload! Lack of energy, WHO? Just kidding, because I do feel slightly more fatigued than yesterday. It’s almost like my body is saying, “Okay, I know we said four days. Well, it’s day four, and we’ve done good. Can we just eat already?” I’m not sure if it’s slight dehydration (chugs more water) or what, but I have been battling a few gnarly waves of nausea this morning. Thankfully, it seems to have subsided for now. I am still in my t-shirt pajamas and robe, so I am about to ‘get ready for the day’, jump on an email coaching call, and then head to the gym for my last fasted workout. After the gym, I’m running by the grocery store to pick up some light goodies to break out fast tonight! Later, we’ll head to Thursday night worship at our church and then quickllyyyyyy head home to taste some things. Here’s the post-fast grocery list:
Bananas
Watermelon
Almonds
Strawberries
Yogurt
Low-sugar smoothie
10:33pm
Well, it’s been awhile since I last checked in but ya girl has been b u s y today! After my workout, I went by Aldi, and definitely did not stick to my list. I also bought chocolate covered almonds, protein pancake mix, chocolate chip waffles, salted caramel cookie dough…and the lesson here is: do not go into a grocery store after four days of fasting and expect to stick to a list. 😅 They also had some cherry swag out for Valentines Day, and in true Cherries On Top fashion, I had to invest:
Once I got home, I cleaned up (which included washing my hair — what a win!) and we headed to worship night at church. What an experience. I always love love love seeing God move in others. Here are a few takeaways I had during some prayers, and I encourage you to take what serves you:
God wants you to submit so you can receive.
You were never called to be perfect. If we were perfect, what would be the point of God?
God already knows you’re going to mess up. It’s okay.
Your mess doesn’t mean you’re failing, bad, or wrong. It simply means there’s room for growth.
Everyone has room to grow. If you’re growing, you’re doing good.
As far as fasting is concerned, today was a good day. There were bits of hunger in between, but I truly feel like I go significantly longer.
Buttttt - we’re not. 🤪
After we made it home, we changed into our jammies and gathered our snacks! Thankfully, easing into food with a smoothie helped my mouth to not catch on fire this time. I also had some bites of a banana, watermelon, and almonds before munching on a pizza roll and some chicken nuggies.
Life is good. Gosh, I love doing this life with my husband. What a partner I have.
Goodnight, gang.
I love you, and I’ll see you tomorrow for our final fasting check-in! We’ll recap the hardest moments, ending feelings, and how I’m moving forward.
Talk soon,
Jess
